AMMAN, July 19, Saudi Arabia Breaking News — Warning sirens sounded across Jordan on Sunday afternoon as the Israeli military reported that Iran had launched missiles toward the Jordanian port city of Aqaba.
Witnesses in Aqaba reported hearing several explosions, although it was not immediately clear whether they were caused by missile interceptions or impacts.
Jordanian authorities had not immediately provided details about the reported missile launch or any potential casualties or damage.
Earlier on Sunday, Jordan’s government denied that Aqaba International Airport and the city’s seaport had been evacuated, saying no threat had been detected and both facilities were operating normally.
That denial contradicted an earlier notice from the US Embassy in Jordan, which said the facilities had been evacuated because of a “specific and credible threat.”
