Sheikha Latifa Warns AI-Generated Content Is Testing Trust in News
DUBAI, September 16, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum warned that AI-generated and manipulated content was making it increasingly difficult for audiences to determine which news and information they could trust.
Sheikha Latifa, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, addressed the issue during a keynote speech titled “The Stories That Shape Our Cities” at the Arab Media Summit 2026 in Dubai.
She said social media and artificial intelligence had expanded opportunities to create content, share ideas and reach audiences across borders. The same tools had also increased the volume of misleading information and the ability to fabricate or manipulate material.
AI-generated content can attract millions or billions of views, while audiences are increasingly questioning what they see and read, she said.
“The easier it becomes to produce and share a story, the more precious genuine human experience becomes,” Her Highness said. “Technology can amplify, enrich and spread a story in seconds. Authentic, spontaneous human experience gives it meaning and enables it to build trust.”
Sheikha Latifa said the challenge was particularly significant in the Arab world, where people under the age of 30 account for more than 55% of the population.
She described that generation as highly connected and increasingly aware of the risks posed by fabricated news. The growing ability to create false or manipulated content placed trust in information itself at risk, she said.
Her address also examined how cities build trust and belonging among residents, investors and visitors.
“Belonging grows when people recognise both what a place gives them and what they can contribute to it. Their presence gains value, and they play an active role in shaping its future,” she said. “This is the difference between attracting people and giving them a reason to belong.”
Sheikha Latifa said culture could strengthen those connections by allowing people to understand different experiences through stories, heritage and creative expression.
She added that the most credible stories about a city emerged from the experiences of the people who lived there and contributed to its development.
The Arab Media Summit is being held from September 15 to 17 under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The event is organized by the Dubai Press Club.
