Saudi foreign minister calls for protection of Jerusalem’s legal and religious status

JORDAN, August 5 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, called for the protection of Jerusalem’s legal, historical and religious status on Wednesday during the Ministerial Meeting in Support of Jerusalem and its Holy Sites, hosted by Jordan.
The foreign minister reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s position that East Jerusalem is the capital of the State of Palestine. He rejected settlement activity, land confiscation and other unilateral measures that he said could alter the city’s legal status or its Islamic and Christian identity.
He said protecting Jerusalem was essential to a just peace and warned against using religious or ideological arguments to justify violence or impose a new political reality in the city.
The foreign minister also welcomed US President Donald Trump’s announcement on the second phase of the Comprehensive Peace Plan, while condemning Israeli military activity in Gaza.
“We strongly condemn the Israeli military violations in the Gaza Strip,” the foreign minister said.
He called for international action to halt violations in Gaza and the West Bank, protect holy sites, reject hate speech and support the Palestinian people.
The foreign minister said Saudi Arabia would continue working with regional and international partners through the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, including its Interfaith Dialogue Track, to support political efforts and peaceful coexistence.
