Saudi Civil Defense Warns of Flash Flood Risk Through Sunday
RIYADH, September 22, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Civil Defense has warned of thunderstorms and possible flash floods in several regions through Sunday, citing forecasts from the National Center for Meteorology.
Civil Defense urged people to exercise caution, remain in safe locations and stay away from valleys and other areas vulnerable to sudden flooding.
It also advised the public not to swim in floodwater or valleys and to follow official instructions issued through media outlets and social media platforms.
The NCM forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across Makkah Region, with conditions that may produce flash floods, hail and strong downdraft winds carrying dust and sand.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Al-Laith and Al-Qunfudhah governorates.
Jazan, Aseer and Al-Baha regions are also expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall. The forecast includes the possibility of flash floods, hail and strong winds carrying dust and sand.
Light to moderate rainfall is forecast for Madinah Region.
The warning remains in effect as thunderstorms are expected to continue in parts of Saudi Arabia through Sunday.
Authorities urged residents and visitors in affected areas to monitor official weather and safety announcements as conditions develop.
