Saudi Civil Defense Requires Third-Party Insurance for High-Risk Activity Licenses

RIYADH, August 18 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Establishments operating in eight high-risk activity categories must obtain approved third-party cooperative insurance before applying for a new license or renewing an existing one, Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Civil Defense said.

The first phase applies to chemical warehouses, used-oil storage, hazardous medical-waste storage, wholesale activities covering all types of wood, general warehouses containing different goods, car-tyre warehouses, paint manufacturing, and industrial detergent manufacturing.

Insurance is an essential part of the licensing process for the covered activities under the relevant regulations and procedures.

The requirement is intended to ensure that establishments meet regulatory standards, protect the rights of individuals, businesses, and other stakeholders, and limit the financial costs that may result from accidents.

Civil Defense said establishments covered by the first phase must complete the insurance requirement before submitting a licensing application. The measure connects preventive, regulatory, and insurance requirements within the licensing process.
