Saudi Ardah Remains a National Day Tradition
RIYADH, September 23, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — The Saudi Ardah, a traditional performance featuring poetry, drums and swords, remains part of the Kingdom’s National Day celebrations, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Ardah was performed at public events during the reign of King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, who arranged and took part in performances with members of the public.
The King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives, known as Darah, records an Ardah held outside the king’s palace in Makkah on the second day of Eid al-Fitr in 1349 AH. Residents gathered as performers recited poetry, beat drums and raised swords.
Darah also documents Ardah performances at other official celebrations during King Abdulaziz’s reign, attended by princes and local residents.
