Saudi Arabia welcomes U.S.-announced Lebanon ceasefire

RIYADH, April 16 — Saudi Arabia welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire in Lebanon, according to a statement carried by the Saudi foreign ministry.
The kingdom also praised what it described as the positive role played by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, the Lebanese government headed by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
In its statement, the foreign ministry renewed Saudi Arabia’s support for the Lebanese state in strengthening sovereignty, limiting weapons to state institutions, and advancing reform steps taken by the government.
Saudi Arabia also reiterated support for efforts aimed at preserving Lebanon’s capabilities and safeguarding its safety and territorial unity.
