Saudi Arabia records 8,943 residency, labor and border violations in one week

RIYADH, May 23 — Saudi Arabia recorded 8,943 violations of residency, labor and border security laws during inspection campaigns carried out across the kingdom from May 14 to 20, the Ministry of Interior said.


The violations included 4,638 residency violations, 2,810 border security violations and 1,495 labor law violations.


Authorities apprehended 1,158 people attempting to cross illegally into the kingdom, including 38% Yemenis, 61% Ethiopians and 1% from other nationalities. They also arrested 54 people attempting to leave the kingdom illegally.


The ministry said 23,679 expatriates are currently undergoing procedures to enforce regulations, while 9,832 people were repatriated.


The ministry warned that anyone facilitating illegal entry into the kingdom, transporting violators or providing shelter or assistance could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to SAR1 million.
