Saudi Arabia Holds Off on Response After Drones From Iraq Target East-West Pipeline
RIYADH, September 12 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Saudi Arabia said it would hold off on responding to a drone attack on its East-West Pipeline after Iraq’s prime minister requested time for his government to take measures to prevent attacks from Iraqi territory.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the targeting of the pipeline in Riyadh and Madinah regions by several drones it said were launched from Iraq. The attack caused injuries and some damage that was being addressed, the ministry said.
“The Kingdom clarifies that, following a request from the prime minister of Iraq to give the brotherly Iraqi government the opportunity to take the necessary measures to prevent attacks launched from Iraqi territory against Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries, the Kingdom has opted not to respond at this stage and to support the efforts of the Iraqi government.”
Saudi Arabia said it reserved the right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, facilities, citizens and residents.
