RIYADH, June 16 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Saudi Arabia and Uruguay drew 1-1 in their Group H World Cup opener on Monday, with both goals following goalkeeping errors.
Saudi Arabia took the lead in the 41st minute through Abdulelah Al Amri after Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera failed to deal with a set-piece.
Muslera parried the ball into Al Amri’s path, allowing the Saudi defender to score from close range.
Uruguay dominated large parts of the first half and pushed for an equalizer after the break, with much of the second period played in Saudi Arabia’s half.
Maxi Araujo levelled for Uruguay after Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais made an error, with the ball falling for Araujo to score.
The result leaves Group H level after the first round of matches, following Spain’s draw with Cape Verde earlier on Monday. All four teams have one point.
