Saudi Arabia Downs Drones Targeting Shaybah Oil Field

Riyadh, March 9, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense said Monday night it intercepted a number of drones over the Empty Quarter desert that had been launched toward the kingdom’s Shaybah oil field.
The ministry said the attack occurred in two waves. The first involved three drones, followed by a second wave of nine drones.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, the drones were fired toward the Shaybah oil field, one of Saudi Arabia’s largest oil production sites located in the Empty Quarter.
The Ministry of Defense has reported several similar interceptions in recent days involving drones targeting the Shaybah facility.
