Saudi Arabia Condemns Houthi Drone Launch Toward Makkah
RIYADH, September 16, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia condemned the launch of a drone that its Ministry of Foreign Affairs said was sent by the Houthis toward Makkah on September 15.
The ministry praised the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces for intercepting and destroying the drone before it entered Makkah’s restricted airspace.
It described the incident as the second attempt to target Makkah, following an earlier incident on July 27, 2017.
The ministry called on the international community to condemn attacks against holy sites and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia and to take a firm position against further incidents.
It also warned about threats attributed to the Houthis against freedom of maritime navigation, commercial shipping and international trade.
Saudi Arabia reaffirmed what it described as its legitimate right to take all necessary measures to protect the Two Holy Mosques and the pilgrims and visitors they receive.
The ministry said that right also extended to the protection of Saudi territory, citizens and residents.
The SPA statement did not report casualties or material damage and provided no additional technical information about the drone.
