Saudi Arabia Condemns Houthi Attacks, Reaffirms Right to Defend Territory and Sovereignty

RIYADH, Oct 5 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia strongly condemned continued Houthi attacks targeting civilians and civilian and economic facilities in the Kingdom, including attempted attacks against Mecca and Medina, and reaffirmed its right to take all necessary measures under international law to defend its territory and sovereignty, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.

The ministry also cited attacks against Riyadh, Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, Najran, Taif and Yanbu, as well as attempts to target Saudi vessels in the southern Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab Strait.

In its statement, the ministry said Saudi Arabia had pursued sustained efforts since the Houthi takeover against Yemen’s legitimate government in 2014 to support a comprehensive and lasting political solution to the conflict.

It accused the Houthis of instead pursuing continued military escalation and worsening the humanitarian and economic suffering of the Yemeni people in service of external agendas.

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed what it described as its inherent right to defend its territory, national assets and sovereignty and to protect its citizens and residents.

The Kingdom said it would take all necessary measures to safeguard its security in accordance with international law.

The ministry also renewed Saudi Arabia’s full political and military support for Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, the Yemeni government and the Yemeni people, with the aim of ending the Houthi takeover and restoring the state and its institutions.

Riyadh called on the international community, particularly the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, to fulfil their responsibilities and implement relevant Security Council resolutions.

Saudi Arabia also urged full international support for Yemen’s legitimate government in confronting the Houthis and ending what the ministry described as their threat to Yemen, the region and the wider international community.
