Saudi Arabia Condemns Houthi Attacks, Affirms Right to Defend Its Sovereignty
RIYADH, September 8, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned Houthi attacks on civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran that injured 73 civilians, including women and children.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned continued Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and threats to the freedom of international maritime navigation.
The ministry described the attacks as part of a hostile approach that threatens the security and stability of Yemen and its Arab and Islamic surroundings. It also accused the group of repeatedly rejecting efforts to achieve peace.
Saudi Arabia affirmed its legitimate right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, safeguard its national assets and protect its citizens and residents.
The Kingdom stressed that it would not tolerate attacks targeting its territory or national assets and said any measures would be taken in accordance with international law.
The ministry warned of the consequences of continued attacks against civilians and civilian facilities, calling for an immediate end to the escalation and to threats against maritime security.
Saudi Arabia also urged the international community to fulfil its responsibilities and implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216 of 2015 and Resolution 2722 of 2024.
