Saudi Arabia Condemns Gaza Offensive, Reaffirms Support for Two-State Solution at UN Rights Council
GENEVA, Sept 29 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia condemned continued Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip during a debate at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva and renewed its call for the protection of civilians and implementation of the two-state solution, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The Saudi statement was delivered by Dr. Salem Al-Qahtani, director general of the General Administration of Humanitarian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the council’s 63rd session under agenda item 7 on the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.
Al-Qahtani called for the ceasefire to be upheld and for full protection of civilians. He also condemned the expansion of Israeli settlement activity and violence by settlers.
Saudi Arabia reiterated its rejection of any measures aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians or altering the geographic or demographic character of occupied Palestinian territory.
The kingdom also welcomed moves by several countries to recognize the State of Palestine and subsequent accountability measures, including restrictions on trade with Israeli settlements.
Al-Qahtani reaffirmed the position that Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, constitute a single Palestinian territorial unit and that the occupation must end.
Saudi Arabia said a just, lasting and comprehensive peace requires implementation of the two-state solution and support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
