Saudi Arabia Condemns Colombia’s Recognition of Israeli Sovereignty Over Occupied Syrian Golan Heights

RIYADH, August 11 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia condemned Colombia’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights on Tuesday, saying the decision violates international law and calling on Bogotá to reconsider its position.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Colombia’s move runs counter to relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which rejected Israel’s application of its laws and administration to the occupied territory as having no international legal effect.
Riyadh warned that the decision could undermine efforts to achieve peace in the region by departing from the longstanding international position on the Golan Heights and reinforcing attempts to change territorial realities through unilateral action.
Saudi Arabia reiterated that the Golan Heights are occupied Syrian Arab territory and said decisions seeking to alter their legal status cannot create rights or confer legitimacy.
The Kingdom urged the Colombian government to reverse its position, comply with international law and relevant UN resolutions, and continue supporting efforts toward regional security, stability and a just and lasting peace.
