Saudi Arabia Calls for Consistent Application of International Law in Armed Conflicts
NEW YORK, September 17, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia called for international law to be applied consistently in armed conflicts, saying compliance with the United Nations Charter was essential to international security and civilian protection.
The Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil, delivered the statement during a UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday focused on upholding international law in armed conflicts.
Alwasil called for the protection of civilians, civilian infrastructure, and humanitarian and medical personnel. He also stressed the need to respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states and to avoid interference in their internal affairs.
International law should be applied without selectivity or double standards, Alwasil said. He also called for stronger accountability for violations as part of efforts to uphold international rules.
The Saudi representative urged countries to prioritize dialogue, peaceful settlement mechanisms and mediation to resolve conflicts and reduce their humanitarian and security consequences.
Alwasil said Saudi Arabia would continue supporting international efforts to protect civilians, uphold international humanitarian law and resolve conflicts through peaceful means.
