NEW YORK, June 23 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia, speaking on behalf of the Arab Group, affirmed support for Syria’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity during a United Nations Security Council session on the humanitarian and political situation in the country.
The Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, delivered the statement, which also backed the Syrian state’s efforts to extend its sovereignty over all Syrian territory.
The Arab Group called for Syria to be removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism and urged international support for the country’s transitional phase, saying such support would contribute to stability and help improve the humanitarian situation.
The statement also expressed support for the Syrian government’s efforts to combat ISIS and terrorism in all its forms, while calling for coordinated international assistance during the current phase.
The Arab Group urged stronger support for countries hosting Syrian refugees, warning against leaving them to bear humanitarian and economic burdens alone.
It also condemned repeated Israeli incursions and attacks on Syrian territory, describing them as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Arab Group reiterated the need for Israel to fully comply with the 1974 Agreement on Disengagement and withdraw immediately and unconditionally from the occupied Syrian Golan.
