MOSCOW, April 4 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Russia’s state nuclear company Rosatom evacuated a further 198 staff from Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant on Saturday as security risks around the site intensified, Russian news agencies reported.
Rosatom has been evacuating personnel from the plant since the war in Iran broke out at the end of February. Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev said developments near the plant were unfolding in line with the worst-case scenario.
The evacuations carried out on Saturday had been planned before the International Atomic Energy Agency said earlier in the day that one of the site’s physical protection staff had been killed by a projectile fragment and that a building on the site had been affected by shockwaves and fragments.
Likhachev said the staff member killed was an Iranian national, according to the Russian agency reports. Rosatom also informed President Vladimir Putin about the situation surrounding the plant, TASS cited him as saying.
