Riyadh Economic Forum to Examine Returns From Expo 2030 and World Cup 2034

RIYADH, August 30 — The 12th Riyadh Economic Forum will examine how Saudi Arabia can maximise the economic and social returns from hosting Expo 2030 Riyadh and the FIFA World Cup 2034, as part of five studies scheduled for discussion on October 12–14, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The study on international events will explore their potential contribution to economic diversification, investment and employment. Its focus is on how hosting these events can support development beyond the events themselves, with the benefits presented as objectives to be examined rather than outcomes already secured.
A separate study will assess how legislation and public policies affect sustainable development. It will consider tools for measuring policy impact and improving policy efficiency, including alignment with economic, social and environmental objectives. Evidence-based decision-making, governance and transparency are also among its stated aims.
Knowledge transfer and localisation form another strand of the agenda. That study will examine their effect on organisational performance, alongside approaches to developing national talent and turning knowledge and expertise into productive value. It links these questions to the development of a knowledge-based economy.
The remaining two studies address urban transport and agriculture. One examines the economic, social and environmental costs of traffic congestion in Saudi Arabia’s major cities and proposes practical improvements to transport efficiency. The other considers smart agricultural technologies, including artificial intelligence, as tools for improving resource efficiency and supporting water and food security amid scarcity, climate change and rising food demand.
According to SPA, discussions are expected to produce recommendations and initiatives aimed at improving public policy and the efficiency of economic sectors. The forum’s work is intended to support decision-makers through scientific analysis and international experience.
