DOHA, October 27 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Qatar said Iran should stop threatening Arab Gulf states and open the Strait of Hormuz to demonstrate the good intentions needed for mediation efforts to succeed.

A Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson made the remarks at a briefing on Tuesday, following a visit by a Qatari delegation to Tehran earlier this week. The visit sought to ease regional tensions in coordination with the United States.

Qatar and Pakistan have been mediating between Washington and Tehran to end the US-Israel war on Iran, which has disrupted global shipping and oil supplies and spread conflict across the Middle East.

The diplomatic effort also brought senior Saudi, Turkish and Pakistani officials to Tehran on Monday for talks with Iranian officials. Those discussions came as Yemen’s Houthis launched further attacks on Saudi Arabia and Egypt approved defense support for the Kingdom.

Tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified, with President Donald Trump saying on Friday that Washington could strike Iran again.

Iranian security officials told Reuters that Tehran had prepared detailed plans to attack undersea cables in the Gulf if the United States and Israel launched another attack.
