Qatar Holds Regional Calls As Gulf Tensions Rise

DOHA, July 9 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Qatar’s foreign minister held separate high-level calls with Iranian, Saudi and Emirati officials on Thursday as U.S.-Iran strikes continued for a second day and targeted Gulf states including Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.

Qatar’s foreign minister received a call from his Iranian counterpart to discuss the latest regional developments, according to Qatar’s News Agency.

Doha condemned attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and stressed the need for dialogue and diplomacy to implement agreements reached in the U.S.-Iran deal.

The Qatari official also spoke separately with his Saudi and UAE counterparts to discuss the latest developments and condemn the targeting of vessels.

Qatari and Saudi vessels were targeted by Iranian strikes while transiting Omani territorial waters near the Strait of Hormuz.

The attacks triggered a new wave of exchanges between the United States and Iran.

The U.S. military said it had struck 90 targets along Iran’s coastline. In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they targeted U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, while the Iranian army said it struck a U.S. military site in Qatar.
