MOSCOW, December 1, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Russian military commanders informed President Vladimir Putin on Sunday that Russian forces had captured the frontline Ukrainian towns of Pokrovsk and Vovchansk, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

Ukrainian officials have not acknowledged the loss of either location. Ukraine’s military reported on Monday that Russian forces carried out about 43 attacks in the sector around Pokrovsk.

In an audio recording shared by Kremlin pool journalists, Peskov said Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian military’s General Staff, reported to Putin during a visit to a military command post that Russian forces had taken Pokrovsk, known in Russian as Krasnoarmeysk.

Pokrovsk, a key Russian target in Moscow’s gradual advance through the Donetsk region, has been under sustained attack for months.

“Army General Gerasimov reported to the commander in chief the liberation of the cities of Pokrovsk in Donetsk region and Vovchansk in Kharkiv region, as well as the results of other offensive actions in other sectors,” Peskov said.

Vovchansk, located near the Russian border in Kharkiv region, has seen heavy fighting for an extended period.

Peskov said another commander, Valery Solodchuk, told Putin that Russian forces were conducting “clean-up” operations against Ukrainian troops around Pokrovsk and the nearby town of Myurnohrad.

A third commander, Andrei Ivanev, briefed Putin on Russian advances further south in the Zaporizhzhia region and an operation he described as the initial stage of capturing the city of Huliaipole.
