Prince Turki Highlights Medical Ethics and Preservation of Arab Medical Heritage at Fez Congress

FEZ, October 28 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Preserving Arab medical manuscripts can help explain how scientific knowledge and professional ethics developed and passed between generations, Prince Turki bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud told a medical history congress in Morocco.

Speaking at the opening of the 14th International Congress of Fez on the History of Medicine, the chairman of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies highlighted the relationship between medical knowledge, ethical responsibility and human values in Arab heritage.

He discussed the historical foundations of medical ethics and the development of standards governing practice and education, including the contributions of scholars and physicians to professional responsibility.

Prince Turki said manuscripts document how medical ideas moved between scholars and countries and how successive generations built on earlier work. Arabic served as a shared language for scholars from different religious and cultural backgrounds, he added.

He also traced Arab healing practices to the period before Islam, citing references to physicians in literary and biographical sources. People with medical expertise were also consulted during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, he said.

The center works to preserve, study, edit and publish historical medical sources. Prince Turki said this work complements the teaching, research and clinical roles of universities and medical schools.

He called for closer cooperation among academic and research institutions, including stronger exchanges between the Mashriq and the Maghreb, to keep historical sources accessible to future generations.

Studying this heritage should combine recognition of its achievements with careful research and integrity, he said.
