WASHINGTON, August 3 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — U.S. President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran would resume on Monday after he cancelled what he described as a planned “massive attack” against the country.
President Trump said the talks would begin on Monday afternoon but gave no details about the participants or location.
He said Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Iran had asked Washington to halt the military operation because they believed an agreement was possible. Iranian state media denied that Tehran had made such a request.
President Trump raised the prospect of separate agreements covering the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear activities.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had urged de-escalation and raised concerns about plans for strikes against Iran during discussions with President Trump.
President Trump declined to say whether the cancelled operation would have targeted energy infrastructure. He maintained that U.S. forces remained ready to act.
