PARIS, May 27 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Naomi Osaka brought fashion back into the spotlight at the French Open, entering Court Suzanne-Lenglen in a dramatic layered look before winning her opening match.

The four-time Grand Slam champion arrived in a black ceremonial skirt and sleeveless beaded bodice before removing the outer pieces to reveal a sequined gold playing dress.

Osaka defeated Germany’s Laura Siegemund 6-3, 7-6 (3) in her first-round match.

The playing dress was designed by Nike, while the outer garments were created by Swiss designer Kevin Germanier.

Osaka compared the gold dress to the Eiffel Tower at night, describing the look as “very couture.”

The appearance followed several recent fashion-led entrances by Osaka, including a wide-brim hat, veil and white parasol at the Australian Open, and red roses in her hair at last year’s U.S. Open.

Osaka has also recently appeared in a major fashion look at the Met Gala in New York.

She said Grand Slam walk-ons are one of the few moments when she feels like an entertainer, adding that athletes are part of show business.

Osaka said she had two backup Nike dresses ready because the gold outfit reflected strongly in the sunlight.

Earlier Tuesday, top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka wore two diamond necklaces during her opening win on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Osaka said before the tournament that fashion gives her another way to express herself, adding that she can be “a little dramatic” with her style.
