PARIS, August 23 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — A mammogram imaging technology developed by a Najran University researcher won the Grand Prize at the 12th International Exhibition of Inventions, placing a potential breast-cancer detection tool among the leading innovations presented at IEI 2026.

The technology enhances mammogram images by making fine tissue structures and other details more visible. Its design could help radiologists identify early indications of breast cancer while providing clearer medical images for examination.

The system can also be integrated with artificial intelligence and computer-aided diagnosis applications. No information was provided about its clinical deployment or regulatory status.

The invention was developed by Dr. Yasser Idris Al-Malki, Associate Professor of Radiology and Consultant Radiologist at Najran University.

Najran University also received the Judges’ Award and the Best International Pavilion Award. Its participating teams secured seven gold and four silver medals during the exhibition, which concluded in Guangzhou.

Around 3,700 inventions from 29 countries were presented at IEI 2026, bringing together universities, research institutions, individual inventors and industrial organizations.

The university’s pavilion featured a wider collection of research projects and inventions, giving its representatives opportunities to exchange expertise and discuss potential scientific and technological cooperation with other participants.
