Maritime Drone Detonates Near Romanian Oil Terminal After Russian Jamming, Ukraine Reports

BUCHAREST, June 6 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — A maritime drone self-detonated near an oil terminal at Romania’s Black Sea port of Constanta on Friday, causing no casualties, after Ukraine said Russian electronic warfare caused one of its naval drones to lose control and drift into Romanian waters, Reuters reported.
Ukraine’s navy said the drone had been on a mission in the Black Sea when it lost control because of Russian electronic warfare.
The navy said it warned Romanian authorities to prevent casualties.
Romania’s Defence Ministry said the object detonated at 10:30 a.m. local time, about four hours after authorities were alerted to its presence.
The port was evacuated, more than 1,000 people were removed from beaches on the Black Sea and near the Danube Delta, and ships and two helicopters surveyed the area for additional drones.
Restrictions were later lifted after no further risks were detected.
The drone detonated about 500 metres from an oil terminal.
Russia’s embassy in Romania denied involvement and said the drone was not Russian.
The incident came a week after a Russian drone struck an apartment building in Galati, near the Ukrainian border, injuring two people.
Constanta is Romania’s largest port and has been used by Ukraine as an alternative route for grain exports and fuel imports.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Russia’s war was increasingly becoming a direct threat to countries on Europe’s eastern border.
