Iran warns Cyprus, Bulgaria over possible US use of military bases

PARIS, July 30 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Iran warned Cyprus and Bulgaria that permitting military bases on their territory to support potential U.S. attacks would amount to participation in aggression against the Islamic Republic.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi raised the issue in separate telephone calls with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova.
Araghchi urged Cyprus to prevent foreign forces from using bases on the island for attacks against Iran. Kombos said his government had received assurances from the United Kingdom that foreign military bases in Cyprus would not be used against Iran or any other country, according to an Iranian Foreign Ministry statement.
In his call with Petrova-Chamova, Araghchi asked Bulgaria to reverse its decision allowing U.S. military aircraft to operate from one of the country’s air bases.
Bulgaria’s parliament approved the arrangement earlier this month to support U.S. military operations in the Middle East.
Araghchi said Iran would defend its security and warned that any country assisting an attack would bear responsibility for the consequences.
Iran has also targeted several Gulf Arab states, accusing them of allowing the United States to use bases on their territory for attacks against Tehran.
