RIYADH, June 14 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Iran announced funeral and burial dates for former Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei, more than three months after he was killed at the start of the U.S.-Israeli war.

Iranian state media reported that funeral ceremonies will begin in Tehran on July 4, with burial scheduled for July 9 in the northeastern city of Mashhad.

The ceremony will include a two-day farewell in Tehran and a funeral procession through the capital.

A second funeral procession will take place in the holy city of Qom the following day.

A final commemorative procession will be held in Mashhad on July 9 before Khamenei’s remains are buried at the city’s sacred shrine.

Khamenei ruled Iran for almost four decades before he was killed in joint U.S.-Israeli strikes at the beginning of the conflict on February 28.

He was succeeded by his second son, Mojtaba Khamenei, after a decision by the 88-member Assembly of Experts.

Mojtaba Khamenei has issued several messages to Iranians since his appointment but has not yet appeared in public.
