International Falcon Breeders Auction Showcases Global Breeding Methods
RIYADH, August 12 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Falcon breeders from several countries are presenting different approaches to bloodline development and selection at the International Falcon Breeders Auction in Malham, north of Riyadh.
A participating Portuguese farm uses the “wild hacking” method, releasing young falcons into windy highlands to develop fitness before formal training. Other European farms concentrate on racing lines selected through the performance of parent birds and their offspring.
Breeders seeking racing falcons assess lineage, speed, fitness and family results. Falcons intended for beauty contests are evaluated by physical characteristics including size, color and the symmetry of the head, wings and chest.
The auction includes gyrfalcons, peregrines, sakers and hybrids, with Canadian, Finnish and Scottish bloodlines represented. Saudi farms are also comparing their birds with international entries and tracking demand among falconers.
The event is being held at the National Center for Falcons and remains open to visitors daily through August 25.
