Houthis Claim Drone Attack on Saudi Aramco’s Jazan Refinery

RIYADH, August 9 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis said on Sunday they had targeted Saudi Aramco’s Jazan refinery with a drone, according to the group’s military spokesperson Yahya Saree.
The Saudi Energy Ministry separately reported that a fire had broken out at the refinery. It said the fire was extinguished, no injuries were recorded and authorities were handling the incident, but did not provide a cause.
The Jazan refinery, located in southwestern Saudi Arabia, processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The Houthis have previously struck Aramco facilities in Jazan and Yanbu, on the Red Sea coast.
In a separate statement, Saree said the group had also carried out missile and drone strikes on Mocha, a Yemeni port city on the Red Sea. Reuters provided no independent confirmation of that claim or information about casualties or damage.
Mocha is controlled by Yemen’s Aden-based government, which is internationally recognized and backed by Riyadh.
The Jazan attack claim came two days after Saudi Arabia signed a defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan amid growing regional instability from the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.
The Houthis declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea last month, citing what they described as a Saudi siege against them. Riyadh denies that allegation.
Iran and the United States, meanwhile, remain at odds over the parameters for peace.
