MAKKAH, June 16 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - The Holy Kaaba received its new Kiswa at the beginning of the new Hijri year 1448 AH, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The Kiswa replacement was carried out after 150 Saudi makers and craftsmen worked over 11 months to produce the new covering.
The Kiswa is made of 47 pieces of black silk embroidered with 30 Quranic verses in silver thread plated with 24-karat gold.
It weighs 1,410 kilograms.
The production process passed through seven stages: desalinating water, washing the silk, weaving, printing, embroidery, assembly and inspection.
The Kiswa was then transported on a special trailer to the Mataf courtyard at the Grand Mosque.
