Riyadh, March 26, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Germany’s lower house of parliament approved initial measures on Thursday aimed at curbing soaring fuel prices caused by the war involving Iran, including a rule allowing petrol stations to raise prices only once a day. Reuters reported the legislation would permit stations to increase prices only at 12 p.m., while allowing cuts at any time.

The package was approved by the Bundestag after fuel prices in Germany climbed above 2 euros per litre following the escalation of the conflict and disruptions to energy markets. Under the measures, violations could lead to fines of up to 100,000 euros, while antitrust rules would also be tightened to improve fuel-price transparency.

Reuters reported the measures were expected to take effect in early April if they complete the legislative process, and that the government plans to review them after one year. Chancellor Friedrich Merz said this week that public finances could not offset all price rises caused by the Iran war.
