GASTAT Reports 65.9 Million Land Border Passengers, 15.8 Million Registered Vehicles in 2024



RIYADH, November 6 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) released its 2024 Road Transport Statistics report today, detailing key indicators of land transport activity across Saudi Arabia.


The number of passengers arriving and departing through land border crossings exceeded 65.9 million in 2024. Arrivals accounted for 33.1 million passengers (50.3%), while departures totaled 32.8 million (49.7%).


The King Fahd Causeway was the busiest border crossing, accounting for 49.9% of total passenger traffic, followed by the Al Khafji crossing at 11.6%.


Monthly data showed that traffic was highest in January (10.1%) and February (9.3%), while September and October saw the lowest movement at 7.1% each.


By the end of 2024, the number of registered vehicles in operation exceeded 15.8 million, marking a 6.9% increase from 2023. Newly registered vehicles surpassed 1 million, up 16.8% year-on-year.


The report also recorded over 17,200 major traffic accidents in 2024, with 60.3% occurring within cities. The mortality rate declined by 7.1% to 12.13 deaths per 100,000 population, while the injury rate fell by 3.8% to 68.21 injuries per 100,000.


GASTAT issues the annual report to provide comprehensive transport indicators for use in research, policy studies, and national and international benchmarking.
