ÉVIAN-LES-BAINS, June 17 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - World leaders at the Group of Seven summit in France welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran, CNN reported.
In a joint statement, the leaders said the agreement provides an opportunity to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and address threats linked to its regional and ballistic activities.
They expressed support for the implementation of the agreement and backed a robust and comprehensive diplomatic arrangement aimed at strengthening peace and security in the region.
The leaders also addressed navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, calling transit without tolls or restrictions a foundation of international trade.
They said a defensive initiative led by France and the United Kingdom could help vessels navigate the strait once it reopens.
The G7 leaders also committed to diversifying energy supply routes to reduce vulnerability if the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted again.
On Iran’s nuclear program, the statement said negotiations must ensure Tehran never obtains a nuclear weapon, with support from regional and international partners and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The leaders also expressed support for an immediate robust ceasefire in Lebanon and for efforts by Lebanon’s government to disarm Hezbollah.
They called for the protection of Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty with appropriate international security guarantees.
The statement also pledged to accelerate humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in Gaza and called for an end to violence in the West Bank.
