Foreign Ministers of 19 Countries Condemn Colombia’s Embassy Opening in Jerusalem

RIYADH, October 16 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - The foreign ministers of 19 countries condemned Colombia’s inauguration of an embassy in Jerusalem and called on its government to reverse the decision, saying it violated United Nations Security Council resolutions and undermined efforts to secure peace through a two-state solution.

The joint statement brought together Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Algeria, Djibouti, Sudan, Syria, Somalia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Egypt and Yemen.

The ministers urged Colombia to uphold its obligations under international law and avoid measures that prejudice Palestinian rights, including the right to an independent and sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

They reaffirmed their position that measures intended to alter occupied Jerusalem’s legal or historical status, or recognize it as Israel’s capital, are null and void and have no legal effect.

The statement cited Security Council Resolutions 476 and 478, adopted in 1980, which reject attempts to change Jerusalem’s character or status and call for the withdrawal of diplomatic missions from the city.

The ministers said Colombia’s decision worked against international efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace based on two states.
