Explosion Reported at Qatar’s Barzan Gas Plant After Operational Incident

RIYADH, June 22 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - QatarEnergy said an operational incident at Ras Laffan resulted in an explosion and fire at the Barzan gas plant on Sunday, Reuters reported.

QatarEnergy said the fire was brought under control.

The company did not say whether the explosion caused damage to the plant, which supplies gas to Qatar’s domestic market.

Qatar’s Interior Ministry said several people were injured in the explosion, which it attributed to a technical accident.

The ministry said there was no leak posing a threat to public safety.

A Reuters witness earlier reported that a loud boom was heard in Doha, south of the Ras Laffan facility.

Ras Laffan is the site of Qatar’s core liquefied natural gas processing operations.
