Brussels, October 17 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The number of asylum seekers in the European Union recorded its first decline in July 2025, falling by 27 percent compared with the same month last year, according to data published by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat).

A total of 55,340 asylum applications were submitted across EU member states in July 2025, down from 75,820 in July 2024, marking the first annual decrease since the beginning of 2024.

Italy received the highest number of applications, totaling 11,190, followed by Spain (10,720), France (10,005), and Germany (8,285). Together, these four countries accounted for approximately 73 percent of all asylum requests within the European Union.

Eurostat data showed that the overall decline was observed across most member states, with southern Europe registering the most significant decreases, coinciding with tighter border controls and ongoing coordination efforts among EU countries to manage migration flows.
