ANKARA, May 20 — Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told U.S. President Donald Trump in a call on Wednesday that he welcomed the extension of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, the Turkish presidency said.

Erdogan said he believed a reasonable solution to disputed issues between Washington and Tehran was possible, according to a statement from his office.

Turkey, a NATO member that borders Iran, has been in contact with Washington, Tehran and mediators including Pakistan in efforts to end the conflict.

The Turkish presidency said Erdogan also told Trump that renewed stability in Syria was an important gain for the region and urged steps to prevent the situation in Lebanon from worsening.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations and preparations for the NATO summit, which is due to be held in Ankara in July, the statement said.
