Drone attack targets hotel in Irbil in Iraq’s Kurdish region

RIYADH, March 6, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — A drone attack targeted the Rotana Arjaan hotel in Irbil, the capital of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region, local media reported on Friday.

Explosions were heard in the area and smoke was seen rising, according to journalists on the ground. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Irbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw said the attack was thwarted and the drone crashed before reaching its target.

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad had earlier warned that militias could attempt to target hotels frequented by foreigners in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

The Kurdish region, which hosts U.S. bases and facilities linked to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, has faced repeated missile and drone attacks since the conflict involving Iran began. Most of the projectiles have been intercepted.
