RIYADH, March 19 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States “knew nothing” about an Israeli strike on Iranian facilities at the South Pars gas field, the world’s largest natural gas reserve.
An Israeli source familiar with the operation told CNN that the attack was carried out in coordination with the United States, contradicting Trump’s statement.
The strike marked a significant escalation, as Israel had previously targeted Iranian fuel depots but had not struck oil and natural gas production facilities.
Iran responded by attacking major energy facilities in neighboring Gulf states, causing what Qatar described as “extensive damage” at its main energy hub in Ras Laffan.
The exchange of strikes pushed energy prices higher, with analysts warning that damage at Ras Laffan could lead to a prolonged global gas shortage.
