LONDON, January 14, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The British government said on Wednesday its embassy in Tehran has been temporarily closed and that all UK staff have been withdrawn from Iran due to the ongoing unrest.

“Due to the security situation, UK staff have been temporarily withdrawn from Iran. Our embassy continues to operate remotely,” it said.

Britain’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) also advised against all travel to Iran, urging British nationals already in the country to “carefully consider” their presence and the risks of staying.

The FCDO warned that British and British-Iranian dual nationals were at “significant risk of arrest, questioning, or detention,” adding that “having a British passport or connections to the UK can be reason enough for the Iranian authorities to detain you.”
