At Least 18 Killed in Houthi Attack on Yemen Training Camp, Sources Say

RIYADH, October 19 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - At least 18 people were killed in a Houthi attack on a government security forces training camp in Yemen’s Shabwa province on Monday, four government and medical sources told Reuters.

Government sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Houthis launched three ballistic missiles at security personnel during a training exercise.

The attack comes as fighting intensifies between the Houthis and Yemen’s internationally recognized government, which is backed by a Saudi-led coalition.

The two sides have exchanged attacks since the Houthis advanced in September towards territory near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a shipping chokepoint at the entrance to the Red Sea.

Government forces began a campaign this month to recapture Houthi-held areas and have recovered ground near the strait. The Houthis are also besieging Taiz, a major stronghold of forces opposing the group.

The renewed fighting adds pressure to Yemen’s humanitarian crisis, with aid agencies warning that conditions are deteriorating rapidly.
