DOHA, June 22 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - An explosion at Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas complex killed 13 people and injured 66 others during the restart of operations at the Barzan local gas supply facility, Reuters reported.

Authorities described the incident as a technical accident that occurred on Sunday evening. Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi told reporters that those killed were from India and Pakistan and that the blast was not the result of sabotage or hostile action.

The plant’s production had been intentionally stopped since December 2025 because of urgent maintenance requirements and restarted two days before the explosion.

Al-Kaabi reported no environmental risk from the incident and no impact on the plant’s export capabilities. An investigation into the explosion has started.

The Barzan facility is part of Ras Laffan Industrial City, QatarEnergy’s major gas production and export site. The incident comes as Gulf energy producers work to restart facilities that were halted during the Iran war.
