UNIDO chief describes Saudi Arabia as regional leader in economic development at Global Industry Summit 2025

RIYADH, November 23, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Gerd Müller, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), praised Saudi Arabia as a regional leader in economic development, highlighting the Kingdom’s strategic projects and diversification programs.
Müller delivered his remarks during the Global Industry Summit (GIS) 2025, which also serves as the 21st Session of the UNIDO General Conference. The summit is being held from November 23–27 at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh.
He said Saudi Arabia’s initiatives represent an ambitious model for sustainable industry at both regional and global levels, noting the scale of transformation underway under national development strategies.
The conference brings together global industry leaders, policymakers, experts, government organizations, and major companies to discuss future industrial pathways, challenges, and emerging opportunities.
Müller emphasized the importance of adopting advanced concepts in modern industry, including information technology, renewable energy, hydrogen, research, and scientific innovation, supported by expanded digital infrastructure and access to information.
He also outlined UNIDO’s initiatives aimed at strengthening international cooperation and supporting broad participation among member states and stakeholders.
Reviewing the evolution of industry from its early foundations to today’s era of renewable energy, robotics, and quantum computing, Müller said that emerging technologies are reshaping global manufacturing. He called for increased investment in least developed and developing countries to enable them to benefit from industrial transformation and achieve inclusive, sustainable growth.
