ABU DHABI, May 19 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The United Arab Emirates said six drones had been launched against the country from Iraq over the past 48 hours, including one that caused a fire near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant on Sunday, Reuters reported.
The UAE Defence Ministry said it intercepted all but one of the drones.
Three of the drones had been targeting the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, the Arab world’s first commercial nuclear power station, according to the ministry.
The drone that penetrated UAE defences struck an electric generator outside the plant’s inner perimeter.
The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation said the plant remained safe and that no radioactive material had been released after the attack.
Saudi Arabia said on Sunday it had intercepted three drones coming from Iraqi airspace, while Iraq said its air defence systems had not detected drones launched from its territory.
