UAE passenger rail network to launch on September 30

ABU DHABI, UAE, June 23 — Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurated Mohamed bin Zayed City Passenger Train Station in Abu Dhabi and witnessed the unveiling of the UAE passenger rail network, which is set to launch on September 30, 2026.
Sheikh Khaled toured the station’s main facilities, reviewed operational readiness procedures and was briefed on infrastructure, passenger-flow systems, future capacity plans and smart services designed to improve the travel experience.
The UAE passenger rail network will begin an introductory operational phase on June 30, with services between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah reducing journey time to one hour and 45 minutes.
Dubai Train Station and Al Dhaid Train Station will open with the official launch on September 30. Stations in Al Dhafra are due to open on December 30, while Sharjah Train Station is scheduled to open on March 30, 2027, completing the route.
Sheikh Khaled said the passenger rail project reflects the UAE’s vision for an integrated transport network that strengthens connectivity between emirates, supports sustainable growth and creates new opportunities for investment, tourism and urban development.
Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail, said the passenger network marks a major step in the development of the UAE’s national transport system, offering safer, more efficient and more flexible travel between cities and key destinations.
Fares on the Abu Dhabi-Fujairah route will start at AED55 for Comfort Class and AED120 for Premium Class. Customers will be able to book tickets through the Etihad Rail mobile app and official website from June 23.
The passenger fleet includes 13 trains, each carrying up to 400 passengers. Services will be operated by Etihad Rail Passenger Services, a joint venture between Etihad Rail and Keolis.
The stations will include cafés, restaurants, retail outlets and hospitality services, while onboard dining will also be available.
The passenger rail project forms part of the UAE Railway Programme, launched under the Projects of the 50, and supports the country’s wider goals for integrated mobility, economic development and sustainable transport.
