Trump says he is considering UAE request for currency swap

WASHINGTON, April 21 — U.S. President Donald Trump said he is considering a request from the United Arab Emirates central bank for a currency swap to help secure dollar liquidity for the oil-rich economy amid the Iran conflict.

In an interview with CNBC, Trump said he was surprised the UAE would need such assistance, but made clear he was open to the prospect.

“I mean I’m surprised because they are really rich,” Trump said.

He added that he would be willing to help the UAE if possible.

“You know, they’re very good for this country. So, yeah, if I could help them, I would,” Trump said.

The remarks indicate Trump is open to supporting the request as the UAE seeks additional dollar liquidity.
