Saudi defense spokesperson says maritime coalition reflects shared response to navigation threats

RIYADH, August 6 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Ministry of Defense spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Malki said the Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition signals a shared international response to threats facing maritime security and freedom of navigation. He said protecting shipping routes and global economic interests is a collective responsibility.
Al-Malki said protecting international shipping lanes and oil tankers is essential to global economic stability. Terrorist acts or other threats to maritime security affect the wider international community and require stronger international cooperation and coordination, he added.
Countries bordering the Red Sea remain in continuous coordination to secure maritime routes and protect shared interests, Al-Malki said.
He said Saudi Arabia had achieved significant results in countering maritime threats through its experience in the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, including threats involving UAVs, fast boats and naval mines.
Al-Malki said the region and the wider international community face real and emerging threats, and that each country has the right to take military or political measures it considers necessary to protect its interests. He said responsibility for maritime security extends beyond coastal states to every country that benefits from safe and stable shipping routes.
